The Republic of Texas,
Est. 1836
The Yegua Airgun Club (YAC) holds field target matches every month, and will hold Pistol Field Target, Pistol Silhouette, Rifle Silhouette, and other competitions throughout the year. Every year the Republic of Texas (ROT) Field Target Roundup is the Texas State Field Target championship sponsored by the Yegua Airgun Club.
AAFTA rules are enforced at all matches. A match director's meeting will be held before each match. Airguns must chronograph at 20 ft. lbs. or less. We will spot check guns at random. If your Daisy Red Rider is knocking over the target holders, and kicking up huge clouds of dust at 50 yards, it will probably get randomly chronied. YAC uses timers at the large matches, but rarely during the regularly scheduled monthly matches.

Yegua Airgun Club Pistol Field Target (PFT) got its start at the 2006 Republic of Texas Field Target Roundup as one of the additional competitions to the regular air rifle field target competitions. Each successive year the number of competitors has increased and PFT has become one of the regular features of the Republic of Texas Field Target Roundup. Yegua Airgun Club now has a PFT Rulebook which provides rules for shooting at a Yegua Airgun Club PFT match. This rulebook also has some general guidance on how to set up and run a PFT match. This gives competitors access to the rules and provides continuity from year to year for match setup and operation. It also provides a basis for other clubs to establish similar rules for their matches. If you would like a copy please visit our "Documents" page on the left toolbar and download a copy.
As in air rifle field target, PFT contestants shoot at a metal target cut in the shape of a common airgun quarry. The target face has a circular opening, or kill zone, where the pellet passes through the field target, striking the paddle behind the target making it fall. The target is then reset by pulling on the reset string, effectively pulling the target back up into the ready position for the next shot. Pellets striking the edge of the kill zone will lock-up the target mechanism so it won’t fall even though the “split” pellet continues on to strike the release paddle.
A Yegua Airgun Club PFT match consists of a course of fire ranging from one to three shots at each target placed at distances of 10-25 yards. The kill zones of the targets vary from ¾ inches to 2 inches in diameter. The kill zone size for Yegua Airgun Club PFT course of fire should average greater than 1 inch diameter for the entire course for most matches.
The Documents page of this web site has an extensive PFT Rule book and operations manual available for downloading. The file is a 3 meg Adobe Acrobate file. There are 6 chapters:
We threw down the Gauntlet and Jousted against Louisiana with Red Ryder’s.
Texas with its “Balloon Bustin’ BB Bad Boys” of Yegua Airgun Club brought home the wood at our first Annual Red Ryder Interstate Challenge.
The score was tied 8 to 8 after 16 rounds but Texas kicked butt with a sudden death shoot off.
This travel trophy will come up for grabs at next years Republic of Texas Field Target Roundup, March 7th & 8th, 2009.
