Yegua Airgun Club Pistol Field Target

Yegua Airgun Club Pistol Field Target Philosophy

Yegua Airgun Club strives to develop shooter skills, and has less interest in promoting equipment races which ultimately discourage new shooters from the sport. Where shooting sports have allowed the use of numerous shooting aids, the shooting equipment used by the top ranked shooters has developed to the point where it has become quite pricey, and has little or no practical application. Competitions at the Yegua Airgun Club are designed to test the skills of the shooters and not the depths of their pocket books. Restricting competition-specific devices and accessories dilutes equipment advantages, reinforces PFT as a hunting game and encourages participation by potential new competitors.

Yegua Airgun Club Pistol Field Target History

Yegua Airgun Club Pistol Field Target (PFT) got its start at the 2006 Republic of Texas Field Target Roundup as one of the additional competitions to the regular air rifle field target competitions. Each successive year the number of competitors has increased and PFT has become one of the regular features of the Republic of Texas Field Target Roundup.

As in air rifle field target, PFT contestants shoot at a metal target cut in the shape of a common airgun quarry. The target face has a circular opening, or kill zone, where the pellet passes through the field target, striking the paddle behind the target making it fall. The target is then reset by pulling on the reset string, effectively pulling the target back up into the ready position for the next shot. Pellets striking the edge of the kill zone will lock-up the target mechanism so it won’t fall even though the “split” pellet continues on to strike the release paddle.

A Yegua Airgun Club PFT match consists of a course of fire ranging from one to three shots at each target placed at distances of 10-25 yards. The kill zones of the targets vary from ¾ inches to 2 inches in diameter. The kill zone size for Yegua Airgun Club PFT course of fire should average greater than 1 inch diameter for the entire course for most matches.

Yegua Airgun Club Pistol Field Target Divisions:

  1. Any Position - Any Sights.
  2. Any Position - Open Sights.
